Nine-year old Betsy was excited
about the upcoming Easter party at her school. “I'm going to win the prize for
the best, home-made Easter bonnet,” she said to her five-year old sister. “It’s
a brand new bike.”
“I want one, too!” replied Bethany . “Do you know how
to make an Easter bonnet for a rabbit? His ears stick up!”
“We’ll figure it out!”
“Super!”
“Race you to the attic!”
The girls quickly climbed
the stairs and began rummaging through boxes collecting old straw hats,
ribbons and bows, beads, dried and artificial flowers.
“Girls, what are you doing in
the attic?” their mother called from downstairs. “Come down, right now!”
“I’m making an Easter bonnet
for our school party, Mommy,” explained Betsy, a few moments later.
“Me too,” added Bethany .
“Are parents and other family
members invited to the party?”
“Yes, Mommy,” said Betsy
apologetically. She had forgotten to give her mother the invitation. Her
mother was pleasantly surprised to see what the party plans were, as she read
the invitation.
“Making Easter bonnets will
keep you out of mischief, for a while,” she thought, reaching into the cupboard
for a pair of scissors and some glue. “You will need this.”
“Will you make some cookies
too, Mommy, please?”
“Sure, if you both help.”
